FAQ

  • What will we be doing in the club?
We will take in user feedback throughout the year to continue improvising our clubs content. However, the current plan is divide the officers up and give them a specific area of computer science to either give a lecture, demo, or project on. Potential sections could be competitive programming, AI/Machine Learning, Web/App Dev, and UIL. Of course there are many more ideas that we could dive into. You should expect there to be homeworks/practice assignments be given as well regarding these concepts learned in the club itself.
  • How much time will this club typically take, in and out of school?
We meet for 45 minutes twice a week, which totals to 1 hour and 30 minutes actually spent in the classroom. However, the homeworks that we will give will vary more depending on your experience as well as the difficulty of the assignments. Note that these homeworks are not required but will increase your elo rating. They are projected to only take about 1 hour a week. However, we still look forward to more commitment in the club and the realm of CS generally speaking, with your elo rating being increased as a product of that devotion.
  • What can be obtained from this club?
Regardless of whether you are a complete beginner or a seasonal veteran of many years, there are certainly new things to be learned here, proposed by our creative and competent team of officers. If you are looking into this industry as a professional career or as a hobby, the CS Club definitely can offer much to be desired. Additionally, we will provide unique opportunities for students to develop their own software projects or even train their own models. Remember, the price is only 10 dollars and there is food weekly from the collective choice of you guys.
  • How do we increase our elo rating?
There are 4 ways. First, you can attend meetings. Second, you can complete the homeworks that we offer in your free time between meetings. Third, you can reach out to the community or develop your own projects and showcase the results to us. Lastly, we will hand out extra rating points for students who show interest in computer science or stand out to us.
  • How often do we meet? Where do we meet?
We meet twice a week, both from 4:15 to 5 pm. Once on Monday and once on Thursday. The Monday session will be cover the main curriculum of computer science broadly, while the Thursday session will cover competitive programming more heavily, with advanced data structures and algorithms. We meet in the design lab next to the Chap Court. It is Mr. Rosier's room.
  • What is the point of this elo rating system?
There are many. It helps us determine officers next year, the topics we should cover, and offers motivation between students to surpass each other.
